Omori Estate

About Us

Omori - A Special Place

Omori is nestled in the south-west corner of Lake Taupo, close to the Kuratau River. Lake Taupo is one of the greatest trout fisheries in the world. The lake area is a natural playground for fishing, sailing and, in winter, snow skiing is only 40 minutes away at the largest ski field in New Zealand. This is the idyllic setting of the picturesque Omori Estate.

The area also has a very special terroir: lake edge, high altitude, cool climate conditions and is positioned on free-draining, deep pumice soils deposited over the last several few thousand years by active volcanoes, Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngaruahoe, only 30 kilometres away. Our first olives were planted in 2001 and the vineyard of some 2 hectares was planted on the Stream Block in 2002 with Pinot Noir and in 2003 with Pinot Gris grapes. The production of both wines and olive oils began in 2006.

Cellar Door Hours

The Cellar Door at the winery is open in the afternoons for wine and olive oil tastings and light snacks, from Christmas until Waitangi Weekend. Outside these times, tastings are available by appointment (see contact/purchase).
